CAS 140-11-4
Benzyl Acetate
Benzyl Acetate is a sweet, jasmine-like ester and the main component of jasmine scent, used in fragrances, soaps, detergents and fruit flavours.
Benzyl acetate has a sweet, floral, fruity odour with a pear-like note. It is the main constituent of jasmine and is found in gardenia and ylang-ylang. Because it is inexpensive, stable and powerful, it is one of the most widely used fragrance materials in soaps, detergents and household products.
It is also a permitted flavouring (FEMA 2135) used in apple, pear and strawberry flavours, and a solvent for resins and inks. Flavour and perfumery grades are tested for residual benzyl chloride and benzaldehyde, which affect odour and acceptability.
