Dioctyl Terephthalate
Dioctyl Terephthalate (DOTP) is a non-phthalate PVC plasticiser that replaces DOP in cables, flooring, toys, automotive interiors and plastisols.
DOTP (bis(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate) is a structural isomer of DOP, but its para-substituted (terephthalate) structure gives it a very different toxicological profile. It is not classified as hazardous or as a substance of very high concern, which has made it the leading drop-in replacement where phthalates are restricted.
Technically, DOTP has lower volatility and better low-temperature flexibility than DOP, so cables last longer at higher ratings and car interiors show less fogging. It is slightly less efficient, so formulations typically need a few extra parts per hundred, and it fuses a little more slowly in plastisols.

Dioctyl Terephthalate — frequently asked
Largely yes. DOTP replaces DOP in most PVC formulations with similar processing. Because it is slightly less efficient, formulations usually need about 3–5 extra parts per hundred resin to reach the same softness.
DOTP is a terephthalate, not an ortho-phthalate. It is not classified as a reproductive toxin or a substance of very high concern, which is why it is used in markets that restrict ortho-phthalates such as DOP.
DOTP has lower volatility, better heat ageing, better low-temperature flexibility and lower fogging than DOP, as well as a more favourable regulatory status.
