CAS 57-11-4
Stearic Acid
Stearic Acid (rubber grade) is a vegetable fatty acid used as a vulcanisation co-activator and processing aid in rubber, and as a lubricant in PVC.
Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid produced mainly from palm and other vegetable oils by splitting and hydrogenation. Commercial stearic acid is a mixture of stearic (C18) and palmitic (C16) acids. Grades are classified by purity and by iodine value — a measure of unsaturation.
In rubber it reacts with zinc oxide to activate vulcanisation and acts as a processing aid that improves filler dispersion and mould release. In PVC it is an external lubricant. Higher-purity triple-pressed grades with very low iodine value go into cosmetics, candles and metal soaps.

Stearic Acid — frequently asked
Rubber-grade stearic acid has a higher iodine value and lower purity, which is sufficient for vulcanisation and processing. Triple-pressed stearic acid has a very low iodine value and higher purity, suited to cosmetics, candles and pharmaceuticals.
Iodine value measures unsaturation. A lower iodine value means fewer double bonds, better oxidative stability and a whiter, harder product. Rubber grades usually specify an iodine value of 8 or below.
Stearic acid is typically used at 1–2 parts per hundred rubber together with zinc oxide.
Yes. Chemtrade manufactures and exports Stearic Acid (CAS 57-11-4) from Surat, Gujarat, India to more than 55 countries, for customers in Plastic & Rubber. Send your grade, quantity and destination port for a quotation within one business day.
Every shipment of Stearic Acid from Chemtrade includes a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Certificate of Origin, third-party pre-shipment inspection and destination-specific regulatory documentation are arranged on request.
